1.
It's the kids' dog, they never brush it
–
(We love this one - blame the kids.)
2.
It spent the weekend at the
ranch.
(We
know what six months of pelt looks like...)
3.
I was away for the weekend.
(All this in 2
days?)
4.
I moved and don't know where
the brushes are.
(Maybe
it is time to invest in some new ones!)
5.
My dog hates the brush.
(We
understand, and sympathize, however you'd be amazed
at what a few minutes
each day will do.)
6.
We think it keeps him warmer
in the winter.
(NOT
TRUE. Matted coats do not insulate properly like a
brushed, healthy coat.)
7.
We brush him...just not that
part.
(Oh
yeah...humm…)
8.
I don't have the time.
(Perhaps
a shorter style is more appropriate.)
9.
We use a brush like "this".
(e.g..
A horsehair brush is NOT the proper brush for a poodle
or bichon coat. Different breeds
require different grooming
tools - ask us - we love to talk about proper
brushing.)
10.
The last groomer we took
him to shaved him bald and now
we're nervous taking him anywhere.
(The
only time WE shave a dog down is when absolutely necessary.
For example,
the dog is so extremely matted it would be inhumane
to even attempt dematting it. We can style your pet's coat to your
desire - providing
you've been doing proper brushing and combing
at home.)
Bottom Line: Brush your dog regularly.
It is unhealthy for your pet if its coat becomes matted:
it can cause
many skin disorders and it also can be very
traumatic for your dog to be
'stripped down' to the skin.
A little attention goes a long way.
